Why I’m You’re Secret Weapon for Family Trips
Travel agents might seem old-school, but they’re doing something none of today’s automated services are doing: looking out for your bottom line.
Have you ever had an agent from Netflix, Southwest, or Sirius XM call you and say, “I was looking over your account and discovered we could save you some money”???
If you haven’t watched Netflix in a while, guess what? Netflix still happily charges your card. They don’t tell you there’s a cheaper plan. They definitely don’t suggest canceling. In fact, they hope you forgot you subscribed.
When our Sirrius XM subscription is getting close to expiring, Grandpa-Does-Disney, calls them up and tells them we’re going to cancel. Inevitably, they offer us a lower price…this has been going on for about 8 years.
Yesterday, I double-checked on my May Southwest flights and sure enough, my outbound flight had dropped about $20 and my inbound flight had dropped by $40… SW did not credit my card, but I do have a lovely $60 sitting in my SW account, thanks to my own monitoring.
I had to call my bank for other reasons, and so I asked if they had any higher yield interest offerings they could recommend for me. Volia! Nobody called me suggesting a lower-interest savings or waiving fees because I’ve been a loyal customer since college. Nope.
Let’s be real—family travel is not cheap. Between flights, hotels, tickets, and ‘Mom-can-I-get-another-Mickey-Bar’ moments, things add up fast. And while we’ve all gotten used to booking stuff online, there’s one old-school service that’s quietly doing something none of the modern tech giants are doing anymore: trying to actually save you money.
Let me be the one to book your Enchanting Extras at midnight. Let me get up at 6am to grab hard-to-get dining reservations. Let me be the one to go client-by-client and lower you package the nano-second Disney releases discounts. Let me be the one to call you and say, “I found you a deal!” Let me be the one to give you free onboard credit for your Disney Cruise and/or pay a portion of your amazing “Adventures By Disney!
If your next family adventure is on the horizon, do yourself (and your budget) a favor—talk to me … Grandma Does Disney, first.
I guarantee, I’m one of the $martest Di$ney/Univer$al hacks out there.
